Explorers

Exploring is a program of Learning for Life involving young men and women between the ages of 14 through 21. Its purpose is to bring a character building, citizenship training, and a fitness program to the youth of America.

Explorer posts are organized by businesses, industries, churches, schools, and community service groups which provide adult volunteer leaders, program resources, and facilities. These posts specialize in a variety of career and recreational programs designed to provide hands-on experience to the members of the post.

The Police Explorer Post is now on Facebook.  The Explorer post can be found under the "services" page, titled Manchester Police Explorer Post 645.  A more up-to-date blog can be found here, as well as a current listing of scheduled meetings as well as the 2009 training calendar.

About the Explorers

The Manchester Police Department has been committed to the Exploring program since the 1970’s. The Exploring program is a program of Learning for Life, which is an affiliate program of the Boy Scouts of America. Law Enforcement Exploring is a worksite-based program for young men and women who have completed the eighth grade and are 14 years of age, or are 15 years of age but have not yet reached their 21st birthday.

Law Enforcement Explorer posts help youth to gain insight into a variety of programs that offer hands-on career activities. For young men and women who are interested in careers in the field of law enforcement, Exploring offers experiential learning with lots of fun-filled, hands-on activities that promote the growth and development of adolescent youth.

In addition to teaching members about policing, we are a community service based group and are very active within the Manchester community. Explorers participate in state wide law enforcement based competitions against other Exploring posts, participate in the New Hampshire Police Cadet Training Academy, attend University of Exploring as well as a law enforcement seminar hosted by the NH Army National Guard. Each of these activities are offered by the Daniel Webster Council and information on each event can be obtained by visiting www.nhexploring.org.

If you are interested in joining the program, please contact Officer Darren Murphy by phone at 668-8711 ext. 692 or by email at dmurphy@manchesternh.gov.
